Album Reviews: The Shins – Port of Morrow

It’s been five Shinlesss years since the band’s lead singer and songwriter James Mercer released Wincing the Night Away, and until the January 9 release of “Simple Song,” all fans could do was continually watch Garden State and hum the rest of the band’s indie-pop discography in hopeful anticipation. But finally, Mercer, the only remaining original member, has delivered the fourth album, Port of Morrow. Amongst a slew of personnel changes and an interim collaboration with Danger Mouse (Broken Bells), many wondered weather the man who had us all humming songs like “New Slang” and “Australia” would be able to infect us with pop-infused goodness once again. Morrow responds with a resounding yes.
